The Visiting Nurse Service, affiliated with the University of Rochester Medical Center (abbreviated URMC), is a home care provider. VNS clinical staff offer wound care, cardiology, rehabilitation and home hospice care as the needs of patients living at home become more and more acute.
VNS is a not-for-profit, Medicare-certified home health care agency. Licensed by the State of New York, VNS has been providing quality care since 1919. As one of the largest full-service home health provider in the Rochester area, VNS conducts more than 600,000 visits to 13,000 patients annually. VNS is a member of the Home Care Association of New York State, Inc. and the National Association for Home Care.
VNS established the Meals On Wheels program, the third oldest in the United States, in 1958 and has since served 10 million meals throughout Monroe County. In Monroe County and the eight-county Rochester region, VN MOW delivered 341,000 meals to 1,952 recipients with the assistance of 2,200 volunteers in 2006.
