Whole Foods Center is a developing strip mall on a busy stretch of Monroe Avenue in Brighton, centering on a planned Whole Foods store. The project's footprint includes the former locations of Mario's Italian Steakhouse & Catering, Clover Lanes, and Mamasan's. First proposed in 2015, it has faced a series of legal challenges based on concerns about increased traffic and adverse environmental impact. In August 2020 the removal of signs blaming "Wegmans lawsuits" for delays signaled that the project was moving into a new phase, however legal struggles continued. Demolition, which began in February 2019, was completed by the removal of the former MamaSan's in September 2020; construction of the first building (a Starbucks) began that same month.
