The Witmer House is an historic mansion owned by the University of Rochester on its Mount Hope Campus. It is used as the residence of the University President and the site of special events. The home was built on the grounds of Ellwanger and Barry nursery and was the residence of former mayor Peter Barry until UR purchased it in 1973.
In 2006 the building was renamed and rededicated in honor of UR Trustee G. Robert Witmer Sr., Class of 1926, and his wife, Marian C. Witmer. Their son, G. Robert Witmer Jr., Class of 1959, and his wife Nancy had played a large role in the building's extensive remodeling and expansion.
