Deana and I started with a dream and the support of Deana's wonderful mom, Marjorie Zielinski, 2.5 years ago and against all odds we met some incredible people and sold some incredible toys that we hoped would inspire the growth of a movement in Rochester where toys were viewed as art and could provide their owners with mirth and inspiration while appreciating in value. To some degree, we succeeded in that goal and it was only through the support of numerous core customers that we were able to live at Elton St. for a year and a year and a half in the Wedge. We were blessed to have been supported by artists and friends like Joe Bailey, Chuck Harrison, Beth Small, Isaac Bidwell, Sean Madden, Meredith Schreiber, Juda Nevadomski, Allie Hartley and now Jamie Lowes... and many others. We introduced designer toys to the West Irondequoit Central School District through Mr. Perry. We'd like to believe that there are kids and adults throughout the Rochester area who have been delighted to have to answer the question "What is THAT?" in connection with things they have purchased at our little store. However, when the store can't pay its bills anymore, as has been the case during the last 6-7 months, you can continue to question the economy, the location, the culture, the advertising, the product and you can continue to have sleepless nights as all your savings disappear or you can just bow out as gracefully as possible. While we are sad to have to close our doors, we are better for the incredible people we have met during this 2.5 year run. What this means to you, my dear friends, is that February will be a month of incredible sales at Plastic! If there is anything in the store that you have lusted after but just could not afford to buy, maybe we can make a deal. If there is something at the store that has caused you to say "I need to get that for Todd's birthday in May"...it is time to make your move now and stockpile these wonderful items for the year. Closing the store is an incredibly expensive proposition despite the presence of a caring and understanding landlord in Joe Bailey....we need to pay the credit card company $500.00 alone in order to terminate our contract. Our hope and prayer is to be able to close the store without taking out further loans and if our friends buy 1 item each this month it will likely go a long way to accomplishing that goal. For those women that are saddened by this turn of events, remember that I work on Saturday and am available for lengthy hugging...owww...Deana...stop it...I'm erasing that. Seriously though...we have never made money at Plastic but we have made friends and we are hopeful that as the years go by and you continue to enjoy the things we have sold over the past 2.5 years, you will remember the little toy store that tried and smile...just as we will every time we think of you.
