Rochester NY Pizza Blog review |
Chester Cab Pizza is a local pizzeria located on Park Avenue at Buckingham Street, a few blocks west of Culver Road. They specialize in Chicago deep dish styles but also serve New York style as well. On Valentine's Day they offer a special heart shaped pizza but demand requires you might have to order that well in advance.
Outdoor seating is also available.
Awards
Chester Cab Pizza was voted "Best Pizza" in City Newspaper's 'Best Of' awards in 20021 and 2006.2

2008-02-28 00:06:05 We call it Chester Slab. Big slices, nothing special. The deep dish is slightly better. The photos of the owner with big hair rock stars on the wall is the most interesting part. —MantraSix
2008-07-20 18:58:49 Monthly meetings at work always meant Chester Cab pizza. One pepperoni, one mushroom, one veggie, and one plain cheese.
I would happily eat 2 or 3 pieces through raffles and PowerPoint presentations. It wasn't great, but it was pizza, and free pizza at that.
There would be leftovers, which would sit in a central area, and no one would touch it. About a sheet pizza would end up in the dumpster.
I was unaware of the e-mail campaigns to the boss, complaining of Chester Cab. We switched to sub trays and now, morale is up.
CC's sheets are a very thick-crusted pizza, with almost as much cheese as there is crust. Eating 4 squares would be a Herculean effort. I'll definitely eat it, but only if the company's buying. —ZachSmalt
2008-07-21 09:55:52 I feel sometimes like I am the only person who does not like pizza from here. It's not awful and I'll eat it if someone else has purchased it, but I would never order it myself. I can't put my finger on what I don't like about it though. My boyfriend loves it and orders it when I'm not around. —SaraChristine
2008-09-26 01:49:10 I live just down the street from Chester Cab and will HAPPILY pay an extra delivery charge to avoid having to deal with the douche bags that work here. The pizza is really tasty however the Neanderthals that take the orders have made me feel like such an inconvenience for walking in the front door that I'd sooner order pizza hut just to be treated kindly. It being such a convenient neighborhood location I've returned on multiple occasions to give the place another try and have been greeted with the same begrudging service as the time before. Cobbs Hill Pizza is just as delicious and the people there don't treat you like shit... check them out. —parkaveglutton
2008-10-05 17:57:06 I've never been terribly fond of their regular pizza, but they have many other items that more than make up for that. First of all, their deep dish is second to none. Their crust and sauce are excellent, they have this unique sweet taste and smell that is mouthwatering.
Second, their wings are top notch too. They break from regular upstate NY convention, and have a very singular unique style. They're breaded in this flaky spiced flour mix(I did a stint there as a driver when i was younger). They come with homemade chips and are to die for. —AlexD1234
2008-12-06 10:39:50 The service is always horrible, the special "fees" they make you pay are outrageous, and the price is high but when they make your order right (which is often NOT the case), you won't be overly disappointed.. The crispy cajun wings are great with the sweet and sour sauce but the pizza is best described as DOUGHY. —BatGuano
2009-04-17 17:31:18 Bland, doughy, uninteresting "Rochester Style" Pizza. If it's your thing, they're reputed to be the best. But it's definitely NOT my thing. —ErikReinert
2009-08-13 18:07:11 In my opinion, the good about Chester Cab outweighs the bad. Sure, there's often a long wait for your pizza, and they charge you a dollar extra to use a credit card through weasely language in their flyer (since charging extra for credit purchases is illegal). So, avoid the hassles by ordering a little bit ahead of time and bringing cash. Never done delivery, so I've never gotten a cold pizza, but yeah, the people working inside run from nice to kind of jerky (like all places you go, basically). A pet peeve of theirs seems to be if you don't tell them you have a coupon when you order over the phone. The pizza is wonderful, though. It's not your typical pizza - the sauce is a sweet, tomato-filled one that's pretty different from other pizza places around. Also, they give you lots of pepperoni (two different kinds!) on your pie. You have to try the wings, they're awesome - I get the cajun style crispy wings with some sauce on the side, and the homemade chips that come with all wings are quite awesome. I've had the deep dish before, and it was good but just not my style. Chester Cab is tasty! —MRich
2009-11-09 05:36:03 Did not like the sauce here.
A decent slice of pizza but not my cup of tea at all. I'm underselling it... it was good, but not great. —NickCassaro
2011-02-07 22:41:40 Good food, very rude employees, and horrible customer service. I will no longer be a customer there. It's unfortunate because I like to shop/eat local when I can. It's too bad when businesses don't care about word of mouth advertisement.
I called around 6 to order wings, we were told the order would be ready in 20 minutes. I was making pizza, so my boyfriend walked down there to get the wings at around 6:40 (we waited a little longer to make sure they were ready, since it was Super Bowl Sunday). He called me from Chester Cab's around 6:50 to double check that I called Chester Cabs instead of somewhere else, the order and the name it was under. According to the people who were working there, our order didn't exist. And instead of offering to make the wings right then or anything useful, they were very rude to him.
I called back when my boyfriend got home in hopes of providing them with some customer service feedback. I explained to the woman who answered why we order from them - they're a local business, within walking distance to home, and have pretty good food. I was hoping that the person I spoke with would at least apologize for the rudeness because at that point I didn't even want the wings. The woman I spoke with seemed irritated that I was even calling to discuss this type of situation and after explaining the whole encounter to her, she didn't even apologize. Instead, she just suggested that we should have just bought the pre-made wings that were available. So based on that, she really didn't even understand why I was calling or complaining..
Like I said, it's just too bad that they/she didn't care about or listen to the experience we had. That's definitely not how you keep people coming back. —CaraDale
2011-03-08 17:10:10 terrible pizza. just moved to the are and gave it a shot. Sauce too watery. No strength to the crust. Lifted first slice out of the box and cheese and toppings fell right off. Always amazes me that people pay money for food like this. No wonder why I have heard a lot of locals say they don't like pizza. Probably cause they never have had good pizza. Go to Pizza Stop and learn —jmw2323
2011-04-10 17:20:17 After reading the pizza reviews, i decided to try a sub. Tried a hot cheese steak sub. It was OK, nothing to get excited about. —Sage
2011-04-11 03:02:42 Now that they got the go-ahead to charge the extra $1 on credit card orders, they have started trying to collect the CVV from phone-in orders. Sounds very suspicious and I will no longer trust them in anything but a cash transaction. I would not do business here at all but (1) I live within a 200 ft. radius and (2) my wife is infatuated with their crispy wings. So we buy them for cash now.
2012-01-15 21:35:49 Not a good experience at all. In fact we never actually got the pizza. Don't bother ordering from them if you actually want to ever get the pizza. We ended up calling a total of three times and really got blown off every time except the last call. Unfortunately that was a nice girl who felt really bad but didn't have the Power to do anything about the problem. They said the delivery guy was already out, but that was the second time they told us that and the pizza was already a hour late and the game was over and everyone had left. Wegmans saved the day! Frozen pizza baby. We try to order from local pizza places and this was our first experience with these guys. No be else has ever done this to us, so I won't judge all Rochester pizza places from one bad apple. If your from out of town or new to the area, Rochester does have good pizza and good delivery services. Just not this place. Skip this place at all costs. —Oiti
2012-01-16 15:14:15 I never liked the pizza here, which is greasy, and often served horrible attitude. Last weekend, one of their drivers drove straight through a stop-sign at 30mpg, almost hitting me. When I yelled, he flicked me off. Unbelievable. —Belle
2012-01-23 09:24:48 Place is hit or miss with me. I've had great pizza, and I've had OK. I've had great steak subs, and I've had OK. Going to start going elsewhere, even though I'm a five minute walk away. —DE
2012-04-20 18:36:23 Zero stars if possible!!!!!! My office's food was 75 minutes late! They wouldn't even offer us free food. Then they forgot the receipts and the delivery moron brought them back and starting harrassing me in a waiting room full of patients. He was totally unprofessional and rude. Seriously?? No free food and you were 75 minutes late??? The delivery guy was an a**hole, half the order was wrong. No onions = onions apparently. They ran out of sausage at 11:30 in the morning, Boneless wings have bones in them and no fries come with the order when they are supposed to. I can not beleive the awful customer service. I was hung up on twice too. Please order food from somewhere else. —Kmons
2012-04-21 16:26:23 I ordered a pizza and a 2 liter of soda this afternoon, and was told it would be 45 minutes for delivery. At the 1:15 mark I called to check on the status of my delivery. At 1:30 - AN HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES - the delivery man showed up at my door with a sandwich.
Obviously I told him to hit the road and promptly called up Chester Cab, who offered nothing in the way of customer retention once I told the manager the story of what happened.
I would suggest anyone thinking about ordering from these clowns to stop and get their pizza from ANYONE else possible. —GennyBock
2013-03-08 07:10:09 They're closing next month. —EileenF
