2008-07-13 11:58:12   I've noticed that the retail access charge and transition charge largely cancel each other out with most ESCO's, so you can mostly focus on the kwh rate. I prefer the variable-price option because it is almost always lower than the fixed-price.

This is just a hunch, but I suspect the people who set the fixed price at the ESCO are probably a lot more informed about 6-12 month energy futures than you or I and they set the price according to the highest rate to hedge their bets.

Still, if you're on a fixed income, that predictability can be really handy and most people don't have aquariums gobbling up obscene amounts of electricity. <sigh> —DaveMahon
