William (Bill) Destler is the ninth and current president of Rochester Institute of Technology.
He previously served as senior vice president for academic affairs and provost of the University of Maryland at College Park. After being selected by a presidential search committee, he became president of RIT on July 1, 2007. He succeeded former president Albert J. Simone.
He is married to Rebecca Johnson, and they have two children.
On May 9 2016 Destler announced he will be retiring from the presidency on June 30 2017.1
