While I agree that the 19th Ward's reputation is sometimes overstated, I think that the current section glosses over some of the real problems that exist (especially for students). Even though student muggings on or near the footbridge have decreased, they have not altogether evaporated. Additionally, it is legitimately true that the area can be unsafe (although I suppose this is true of any area of a city). Let me describe this via a story. I have a friend that lived in the 19th Ward for 3 months, and moved out due to safety concerns. During these three months, he was robbed twice. While a police officer was there responding to the call, the officer told him that he should, "buy a gun if he's going to live here, and not just a pistol, but something with some real stopping power." So perhaps the wording of the section could be changed to reflect the improved situation, but still illustrate potential dangers. — TimBaran

2020-12-13 00:14:22   Hello everyone. I am an MBA student at the University of Rochester and I am part of a student group looking to solicit community feedback on potential entrepreneurial ventures needed in this area. From our preliminary research and living in the area for the past few years we believe that the community could benefit from a multi-use (business/residential) space with a fresh produce grocery store attached. However, our goal is to hear directly from 19th ward residents and those in the surrounding areas on which businesses would enrich the local area and help drive the local economy through job creation, new business formation, and attracting investment capital.

Please help us in our quest by filling out the following 2-minute survey: https://tkandrews.typeform.com/to/ZNWe4zHt

And check out and sign our petition to bring a community grocery to the area: https://www.change.org/p/residents-of-rochester-ny-southwest-quadrant-develop-a-community-grocery-store-to-create-access-to-fresh-foods?recruiter=1167810491&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition

Thanks for your time and please message me if you have any questions.
