The Mighty Genesee(River)
The Genesee River begins in Pennsylvania and flows north until it flows into Lake Ontario. The river flows for 158 miles through New York. The Genesee River flows through Letchworth State Park which is known as, "The Grand Canyon of East." The river's name is derived from the Seneca word meaning 'good valley' or 'pleasant valley'... Obviously the Seneca never visited Florida, or they would have realized the climate in and around the Genesee Valley wasn't good nor was it pleasant. There are many waterfalls along the length of the river, the falls in Rochester are the only reason this miserable town exists. Some unfortunate souls decides to stop here on the way to somewhere better and figured they could make some money grinding things into flour. Then they built the Eastman Kodak Company to dump chemicals into the river which then flowed into the Lake!
The Genesee River freezes over in the winter, which makes it more interesting than most rivers. It also has waterfalls, which also makes it more interesting than most rivers. The University of Rochester crew team also practices in the Genesee River. The Erie Canal is yet another unfortunate body of water to come in contact with the Genesee River...
