G. Curtis "Curt" Gerling was a Rochester newspaperman and author of Smugtown, a 1957 book that was extremely critical of Rochester society.
In addition to his book and his newspaper writing for the Rochester Sun, Gerling founded Empire State Weeklies, Inc, a community newspaper publisher, in 1945. The company continues publishing to this day.
Gerling died of congestive heart failure, October 21, 1991. He was 89 years old.
