Hitchhiking in Rochester is an alternative to paying high gas prices at the pump, and is also a very 'green' way to travel. Contrary to popular belief, hitchhiking is technically not illegal in New York State (except on the Thruway). This doesn't mean that you couldn't get in trouble for hitchhiking though.

Also, despite the technical legality of this method of travel, it can be dangerous and highly unpredictable (which translates to fun for some people).
