The Talmudical Institute of Upstate New York (TIUNY) is an educational institution for high school- and college-age men. It was founded in 1974 by Rabbi Menachem Davidowitz and Rabbi Dovid Harris.
They have 2 famous alumni – Heshy Fried, (a former blogger and comic) and Yaakov Shwekey (a singer.)
TIUNY accepts only men that are compatible with already existing community and is known for its individual approach to every student. Thus, all the rabbis there are told to be the perfect fit for their positions. Students receive much attention, get a paper writings support, and are guided by real professionals. For example, Yoni Polatoff is known for having a depth of Torah learning, and Rabbi Polatoff sets aside several hours a day to have a one-on-one talk with each student to ensure all of them move in the right direction.
TIUNY is also told to have a special atmosphere where students strive for personal growth and success.
Though the institution’s academic program is created to challenge students, the off-hours are given to allow them to refresh and have a good rest. They can visit a basketball court, workout room and hockey gym.
