2006-06-30 11:11:32   I have had penne vodka in countless Rochester Italian restaurants, and I keep coming back to Pane Vino for it—it's definitely my favorite. The atmosphere is very nice, especially when it's warm enough to eat outside in the courtyard, the food is great, and the service is friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. A great place for a date! —RachelBlumenthal

2006-08-25 12:27:55   Not as upscale as previous tenants, but actually the better for it. Very airy in the summer, and food is quite pleasant considering the discouraging ubiquity of Italian. Somewhat tacky patrons (and even some of the staff) notwithstanding, we were drawn inside by the tall & spacious brick-lined interior. Stuffed shrooms are the low point on the menu (for price and taste), but other dishes involving porcini shine. —ChristineLeo

2006-11-05 20:14:21   One of my wife's and my favorite places to go for special occasions. The ambiance is inviting and relaxing. The decor attempts to make you feel like you are eating in Tuscany. This is a place to go have a nice quiet conversation and enjoy your meal. The wait staff has been very helpful and they do not rush you. I have had various chicken and veal dishes. All have been very flavorful and presented nicely. —ScottHendler

2006-11-06 14:56:23   I dined here last weekend, and had a pleasant time. My rack of lamb was cooked just as I had asked, with a fragrant rosemary rub. My companion had excellent things to say about her eggplant parmesan. Our server did a nice job in recommending a wine and accommodating my dietary needs. A dining certificate from restaurant.com was accepted with no hassle. —EastSideStephen

2006-12-12 17:24:10   Yowza! That 11/9/6 D&C review just convinced me to change my dinner plans this Friday night. I have no interest going to a restaurant that has a review mentioning bar hopping, barflies, and a hook-up factor. This place sounds like a night club, not a restaurant. No thanks! —ZedOmega

2006-12-12 20:00:28   ZedOmega, ignore the review—give it a try. Maybe it's like that late at night on the weekends, but I have gone here countless times during normal dining hours and I've never been disappointed. It's definitely one of my favorite restuarants around here. Give it a try-you won't be disappointed! —RachelBlumenthal

2007-03-31 21:44:56   What an awful experience we had a Pane Vino— the food was awful— we sent back 3 out of 5 dinners— and there was no replacement given or even offered. But, truthfully the most disappointing thing about the evening was the rudeness of the managers. The owner and manager did not even attempt to speak with us after our meals were sent back— and neither did the chef— no one came over to apologize or to see if there was a replacement meal we would like. Ultimately, we asked to speak to the manager and were treated degradingly. It is really unfortunate because the ambiance is quite nice and the restaurant clearly has potential. But, after tonight— numerous tables commented to us on our way out (after observing how we were treated) about how the taste of the food does not matter at all when restaurant owners and managers treat their patrons the way in which we were treated this evening. —JennieSchaff

2007-03-31 21:50:46   Wow, I've always had excellent experiences here (as shown by my previous comments.) Can you give some more details about what went wrong, Jennie? I'm really curious—everything I've had there has been delicious and the service has always been perfect. —RachelBlumenthal

2007-03-31 22:02:00   First we waited for about 1 1/2 hours for our food— 3 of us ordered Ahi Tuna (a special)— we ordered it rare— and all three pieces were VERY well done— in fact, the waiter did notice the well-doneness as we cut the fish while he was there since he was talking to someone else at our table— so, immediately, he saw how VERY well done the fish was. Nonetheless, we were so hungry at that point that we tasted the fish and something was really wrong with it— forget how well done it was, it was just bad fish. — anyways, the fact that the fish was bad, was a disappointment for sure— but really what upset us all was that then they didn't offer us another meal or something to replace our meal— and treated us so rudely... —JennieSchaff

2007-06-04 14:31:04   Recent visit (necessitated by last-minute reservations - booked everywhere else) spoiled occasion for guest of honor. 40-min gap between courses, unexplained; water went un-refilled, along with the coffee. Waitress voluntarily said she'd touch up our wine, and never did. Very strange level of service considering $200 bill - that's steep, if no one liked their food. With our luck in fellow diners (always get the loud/mannerless crowd??) I can't see return visits, even if workmates are interested. And I can't find porcini on the menu anymore. Yarr! —ChristineLeo

2007-11-12 10:15:04   Incredibly slow service. Waitress had a bit of an attitude and acted like we were bothering her when we asked for something as simple as a refill on our coffee. Food wasn't anything special. There are so many other better places in town to eat. —RocGuy14610
