Cab Calloway, famous bandleader and songwriter, was born in Rochester in 1907 and lived on Sycamore Street until 1918. A small monument honors him in the park between Sycamore and Avon Place.
Calloway wrote "Minnie the Moocher," the first Jazz album to sell a million copies. He was bandleader at the Cotton Club in Harlem during the 1930s and appeared in the Blues Brothers.
Cab Calloway passed away from a stroke on November 18th, 1994.
