White-tailed buck There is a large population of deer in the Rochester area. During the fall mating and migration season, motorists must be very alert for deer in the roads. Over the course of a year, deer-vehicle accidents can account for more than a third of all accidents in the county. Local farmers also claim to lose anywhere from 30 to 80% of their crops due to damage from deer.1
Deer can be hunted with both bow and gun in Monroe County. In 2008, bow season is from October 18 to November 14, and again from December 8 to December 16. Gun season extends from November 15 to December 7.2
