2007-08-06 16:47:53   Would it be better to call the electricians category "Electricians" or "Electrical Contractors"? I admit that I don't know about the electrical trade, but did find a brief description of the difference between an electrician and an electrical contractor at [WWW]http://awschell.com/FAQ.html.

"Electrician" seems to be a broader term, but I'm not sure if that sole fact makes it a better title, especially if all electricians that would be hired for home repair are in fact electrical contractors.

Any thoughts? —AlexanderGartley

2007-08-06 18:48:10   Tricky, but I think accessibility is more important than trade semantics. When I think of "Electrical Contractors", I think of the people who wire new houses. If that's true of most people, then we should stick with Electricians. —DaveMahon

2008-12-17 18:05:57   Why no rocwiki page discussing good and bad contractors? Except for this: [WWW]https://rocwiki.org/Home_Contractors I'm not a Rochester native and had to pick people randomly out of the phone book. Just wondering why this topic has not been picked up on... perhaps I'll have to start one. Maybe most rocwiki-ites don't own their places of abode yet? —JasonHaremza

2008-12-18 14:44:35   That's a valid point, Jason. To date, that has been a weak point of the wiki and you are more than welcome to help develop this area. While quite a few of our contributors and readers are renters (and residents of college dorms), we still have a number of home owners.

In general though, our format lends itself to feedback on specific contractors rather than an ongoing direct comparison of contractors. —DaveMahon
