2010-04-22 12:07:21 I was excited to try Happy Hour at Mamooche Bistro with some friends because it is right in my neighborhood. They do not have any beers on tap, but domestic bottles are $2. It was nice to sit out on the terrace with our drinks. Mamooche has a 1/2 priced appetizer special for Happy Hour, but it is for their regular menu appetizers, not typical happy hour fare. (We had planned on getting wings, but they informed us bar menu with thinks like wings and loaded fries is only served Thursday, Friday, and Saturday after 10pm.) We got the bruschetta which was pretty run of the mill. The entrees of the people near us looked good.
Overall, they have an upscale Italian menu and pricing, but also want to have happy hour and 1/2 priced appetizers. The atmosphere seemed way too formal for happy hour. I would say Mamooche Bistro needs to decide what kind of establishment they are going to be and commit to it; rather than trying to walk the line between happy hour bar and fine dining place (Something they are currently not accomplishing). —KatieS
2010-04-22 13:23:28 At first I was going to leave this place alone but Katie's comment made too much sense and inspired me a little. My wife and I went in here last Friday to check it out. The menu is upscale Italian and they are willing to charge for it but they sat us at a friggin' card table on the large dance floor. There are cheap card tables and card table chairs just placed on the dance floor to go along with this menu and the prices. Linen table cloths folded over a few times to fit. I was aggravated and wanted to leave but we stayed because we felt bad. We were the only ones in the place but there were employees and managers and others wandering all over the place. The music playing too loudly was one of the local stations that thrives on playing mostly Matchbox 20. The waitress was the best part about the place, she just handled herself and everything perfectly. I think her name was Jenna. Jenna is fighting a no-win situation.
Now that I am looking back on it, the salads were excellent - called Mamooche greens or something. The rest of it was just mediocre Italian food. I had Ravioli in some unmemorable white sauce and my wife had Shrimp Gamberetti, it was all edible and just ok. The ravioli were $17 and I ordered these because I didn't want to take a chance and pay more for an entree and have to eat it on the card tables/dance floor. We just felt completely insulted adding together the atmosphere and the food. We tried. Maybe it's a great dance club at night. There are just too many other good locally owned and operated options to waste money here on dinner. —BigPun
2010-06-17 17:47:15 I went here on the Friday of East End Fest. I was so disappointed with this place I thought about going to the manager and asking for my $3 cover charge back just to prove a point. First, when we were waiting in line, girls who were clearly under 21 tried to get in, but were denied by the bouncer- after convincing the bouncer that they would show him their breasts if he let the girls in, he accepted the offer and they then trotted right into the bar! I had never been here, so I thought I would give it a shot. The music was so loud I couldn't even talk to my friends, but then I look at the dance floor and there was a guy grinding against one of the underage girls in just his underwear! I was so disgusted I put my full beer down and left. I would NEVER patronize this place again and I hope they go out of business just like every other establishment that has been there. —Rocky701
2010-06-24 18:06:31 This place is not good. The owners seemed real shady. The food is bad and not worth the money. There is nothing upscale about this place. The music is way to loud to the point where its hard to enjoy the over priced meal. Our table was also in the middle of the dance floor and was about the size of card table. We were the only ones in the place and the service still managed to be terrible. Never again will I go here and I encourage others not to go here also. What a waste of time and money, I hope they go under. Spend your money at Murphys or Anchor Bar. Dont waste it at this place. —ChrisRisc

2010-11-28 20:21:49 HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE... food and night club! i didnt know "upscale" italian establishments unfold the card table for you as you walk in. There were no other customers (5pm on a saturday) and i quickly learned why.
Stale bread... probably because they dont have enough business to go through a loaf a day!
I ordered the most bland chicken french i have ever eaten that al carte cost me over $20. About 4 different people kept trying to wait on us.
I cannot wait until this place shuts down and something better goes in. —HappyResident4
