Mayer Paint and Hardware is a neighborhood paint and hardware in North Winton Village. It has been run by the Green family for over forty years and is a neighborhood institution. The store is somewhat unusually organized in that one part is a Benjamin Moore paint store and the other is an Ace Hardware store, although you can make purchases at either register.

2008-05-27 11:52:14 Friendly, helpful employees. Great clean place. Ace paint is a bargain, good quality paint for a low price. This store is an asset to the Winton neighborhood. —MrRochester
2008-05-27 18:49:25 An amazing place considering the size. Absolutely always my first stop before heading to the big box. The only thing they come up short on is the big stuff like lumber or concrete blocks. Other than that there is a strong chance you'll find whatever else you are looking for. Their price on a Weber grill we just bought was the same as the chains and we felt good spending that money with Mayer. We get all our paint and painting supplies here too, we're partial to Benjamin Moore, haven't tried their house brand yet. —DottieHoffmann
2008-12-02 08:29:15 Since I moved into the neighborhood very recently, I think I have been here at least 5 times to pick up supplies to paint/renovate. The store is much larger than it looks from the picture and so far, they've had everything we've needed. Obviously, there are reasons to shop at the bigger stores too, but I will always try here before heading to Home Depot or Lowes. It is wonderful to have this store just a few blocks away! Everyone who works there has been really nice also... —SaraChristine
2009-06-28 13:51:55 helpful staff, good pricing, and selection is pared down to what's needed. they will not hesitate to recommend another source if they don't have just what you want. as said by another: first stop before going to a big box, and well worth it. —EricScoles
2009-11-07 10:58:22 I feel better about myself after shopping here. For about 99% of the work I do around the house this place has what I need. And the staff make shunning the big boxes worth it. —BatGuano
2010-12-10 11:10:03 I've gone to Lowe's or Home Depot for items that I mistakenly believed would not be offered at Mayer Hardware, only to find out later that either the superstore didn't have it, and Mayer did, or that Mayer had a brand/variety of the item that better suited my needs. The only reason I won't go here is if I need lumber. Mayer is also a little limited in their power tool selection. However, the service here is top notch, they offer the best quality paints in town, it's less of a drive for me than to go to Home Depot, and I never spend my time wandering around aimlessly looking for something I can't find. I love this place more than any other store in Rochester. —ErikReinert
2016-05-06 18:26:32 The older I become, the more I realize that in many, many instances the prices at the big box stores are not the lowest. Case in point, I just purchased two eighteen pound bags of charcoal at Mayer for a few dollars more than Lowes was charging for one eighteen pound bag (same brand and style). Service was spot on and very helpful. —bayton
2016-05-08 10:19:15 If you go here you may pay a little more. However, ask anyone about anything you are working and they'll find someone in the store who knows more than you know about it and get you the info you need. You know that you always hear about how the big box hardware store have taken the character and customer service out of hareward shopping and we need more local hardware stores? Yeah, this is exactly what they are talking about. Great place. —badfish
