Rochester Poets was founded in 1922 as the Rochester chapter of the [wikipedia]Poetry Society of America. It is the oldest ongoing poetry and literary organization in the upstate New York region.

Events

From 2004 to 2012 their monthly workshops were held at the Center at High Falls Gallery in Rochester's High Falls district; when the Gallery closed in 2012, the meetings were moved to the [WWW]Crossroads Coffee House in the South Wedge district. The workshops run from 2-4 pm on the fourth Saturday of each month. Readings and an Open Mic are held on the third Sunday of every month, 2-4 pm, at St. John Fisher College in the Ross Gallery of the Skalny Welcome Center building.

The group used to sponsor the monthly Peace Storefront reading series on the first Friday of each month, and the weekly Free Speech Zone reading series held at the [WWW]Tango Cafe at 8 pm on Tuesdays. The Peace Storefront series ended in 2009 when the Storefront closed; the series at The Tango was discontinued in December of 2011.

Rochester Poets sends out regular notices of area literary events, publishes a monthly newsletter, and produces The Pinnacle Hill Review, an anthology of selected member work.

To join their mailing list (informing subscribers of area literary events) send an email with the Subject: "Mailing List" to <rochesterpoets AT gmail DOT com>. They do primarily send out notices via Facebook.
