Wikimedia Image The Southern Tier refers to the counties of New York state that are
"west of the Catskill Mountains along the northern border of Pennsylvania. It is a loosely defined term that generally includes the counties on that border Pennsylvania west of Delaware County inclusive." 1
For the Rochester area, we normally think of the Southern Tier in terms of Stueben, Chemung, and Schuyler Counties and the towns of Bath, Corning, Elmira, Hornell, Horseheads, and Watkins Glen.
