2007-02-27 14:43:40 I had the worst customer experience ever at the Monroe Avenue store. I ordered pair of glasses, and after a month-and-a-half of failed promises the store owner told me they could not fit my prescription in the frames I ordered. Despite this, he refused to refund my money! My only option was to pick another frame in the store (his "generous" offer: if I picked a more expensive frame, he'd give me a 50% discount on the difference). I understand sometimes problems happen, but my money should have been refunded - instead I was trapped into buying a pair from this store. Even the little things were done wrong. I had my glasses adjusted twice by their optician, and both times they were still crooked. When I took them to the Sterling Optical in Southtown Plaza, the optician took his time, and adjusted them properly. The Monroe Avenue store's attitude toward customer service obviously trickles down from the franchise owner to his employees.
The other stores in the area are owned by a different franchisee, so this review does not necessarily reflect on all Sterling Optical Locations.—EastSideStephen
NOTE 11/19/2009: This incident happened while Sam Tadros was the franchisee. Since he no longer owns this location, the poor review no longer applies.
2007-07-16 15:54:58 I agree 110%. Sterling Optical is unlike any other place I've been to. First and foremost it isn’t even really a doctor's office. The atmosphere feels like a hangout, not at one moment did we feel we were at a place of business none the less a doctor’s office! The owner is ridiculous. He wasn’t there 4 out of the 6 times I called; the staff is rude and inconsiderate. My wife had purchased a pair of multifocal eyeglasses; her first pair ever a few months ago, and let's just say we will not be back again, nor will we be giving any positive remarks to others we come in contact with. The prices changed from one person to the next, it had seemed the owner raised them dramatically from the first person we saw when we were just browsing before her appointment. Not to mention we tried to pick them up and the optician wasn’t even there, as we were unaware after driving 45 minutes! I will not condone such a business and agree with the person below. —ErinQuinn
2009-05-04 16:33:59 DON'T EVER GO THERE!!! The optician (the very old guy) doesn't know what he is doing. My whole "eye exam" took 30 minutes in total. He spent 3 minutes examining my eyes (yes, 3 minutes!!! I am NOT kidding), and the rest of the time trying to convince me to do his $5000 "innovative" corrective eye procedure. Not only that, he prescribed me contact lens when he shouldn't have in the first place (because I have very dry eyes). After 1 week with contact lens, my eyes became red, itchy and very irritated. I then went to see an ophthalmologist who said that any qualified eye doctor would tell me that my eyes are not suitable for contact lens. I then went back to the store to ask for a refund. The old guy "re-examined" my eyes, and thought "well, maybe another brand of contact lens may work better for me". I had a horrible, horrible experience. Not to say I still haven't got my refund. The optician there is unqualified, and should have retired long time ago. I can't believe someone like him is still in practice. By the way, if you want to get an eye exam, go see an ophthalmologist (a certified MD eye doctor). —bigsmile111

2011-07-19 12:38:41 Sterling Optical in the Pittsford Colony Plaza rocks! My 3-year-old broke my frames and I need them to see for my job. I called, went in and the lovely ladies found an inexpensive frame that fit my lenses and let me take them as a loner until I can get new glasses. Joanne and Michelle were the gals that helped me out. They also adjusted my sunglasses when I was there and hooked me up with a contact lens case. No waiting either! So nice! Love them! —sherrybdunn
