2008-10-08 12:17:39 I quote myself from Wiki Community/Etiquette/Talk
-
What would your mother/spouse/children/significant-other think of your edit job
-
Would a printout from the RocWiki edit be helpful in your folder when being considered for an investment, job, promotion (or parole)(;>} —BradMandell

2008-10-08 13:15:03 Athena-regarding your question—I cannot make sure anyone does anything. You can delete your own comments if you wish too. Please don't blame others for your own errors (ie posting a comment from someone else's computer). We look at any page when there are multiple comments from different people with the same IP. Your statement to Badfish is out-of-line. —PeteB
2008-10-08 14:28:20 Athena, you placed the information on here. I did not create anything. I merely pointed out your actions and that of your friend Kristen. You and Kristen have posted in the past with the same IP addresses—which is usually a sign of the same person posting under different names. This is further compounded by the fact that there are 2 addresses you both have posted from. I am sorry you feel I had a hand in making you look a certain way, but I really feel that is not true. Again, the actions were all yours, I merely pointed them out. —BadFish
2008-10-08 16:34:29 I have locked Virtu for editing, not because I doubt your claims, but only because RocWiki tries to minimize such edit wars. You may find it easier to join our Google Group where a more orderly discussion can flesh out a course of action that is satisfactory to everyone. —DaveMahon
2008-10-08 22:25:35 There appears to be some confusion about our [rather loose] policies and procedures here.
First, NEVER edit other people's comments without the blessing of the Community via our Google Group.
Second, NEVER create new accounts, especially under pseudonyms, with the intent, real or perceived, of intimidating or threatening RocWiki. We do not have managers, only particularly involved contributors.
Third, use new comments to contest claims in old ones. If a couple of these exchanges proves inadequate, move the conversation to our Google Group. You do have to be a member to post and your first few posts will almost certainly be moderated. However, unless truly outrageous language is used, our moderators, a group which includes yours truly, will allow most anything through.
When used properly, these procedures frequently resolve problems quickly and amicably. It's also the surest way of getting positive treatment from the RocWiki community, in whom all of the power is vested. AdminGroup members, such as myself, may have slightly stronger voices at times, but for the most part, we are merely vessels of the community consensus and facilitators for new contributors such as yourself.
Make use of the channels the community has provided and everyone will be happier for it. —DaveMahon
2008-10-09 10:48:14 Obviously the lesson learned here is never let someone use your computer to post on this site. I certainly understand the need for overseeing its usage, and I'm sure that people have done all sorts of nasty things that require a warning or some action taken. But it seems that errors can be made by those overseeing, and assumptions can be made based on the information that is made public on this site, i.e. the IP address. Unfortunately for me, that was the case here, and I'm stuck with my name being wrongly accused, as well as my business, in a public place where people IN my business tend to browse. The Wiki contributors who are "watching" us should maybe come up with some other way call people out that is not potentially slanderous, or harmful to friendships and relationships. Possibly email a warning that your activity is suspicious, or post a notice on their userpage? It might prevent you from making mistakes that can prove more costly than you can imagine to the people being accused.
