The Big Wish Globe is a 1,200 lb. steel structure created by a local artist, Patrick Doyle. The structure was cut and put together by Klein Steel Service. The globe sat on the Sister Cities pedestrian bridge.
The Globe was used during New Years Eve, December 31 2008 as a start to the city's 175 Anniversary celebration. City officials placed more than 30,000 e-mailed and mailed wishes from residents around the Rochester area and set them afire in the globe, in honor of Native American traditions. In Native American fire ceremonies, intentions and hopes are burned to replace the past with something new.
