2009-06-10 13:36:52 I'm not sure if this is a local thing, as I am relatively new to Rochester, but was taken aback by the fact that my Pork Fried Rice was yellow. I've heard from other transplants that this is something common to Rochester chinese cuisine, so I cannot say whether or not this was some sort of off batch. I do have to say that the taste was certainly off. The rice tasted like dirty mop water smells. If this is Rochester Fried Rice, I want no part of it. —MerCDotes
2010-04-19 12:17:33 I grew up on pork friend rice in Akron, Ohio and it was yellow there as well. It's either the variety of rice or I would guess they add turmeric to the rice. I kind of expect my fried rice to be yellow b/c of that. —DamianKumor

2011-04-18 09:30:46 China Garden Kitchen uses authentic aromatic glutinous rice which might smell oddly something like dead mice or dirty feet to people unfamiliar with it. It is highly prized in authentic Chinese cooking. The food is good and the owners very friendly. —DougAnderson
