2007-05-01 21:25:07 There isn't anything particularly Rochester-ish about Derek Roy. Though he played for the Amerks, there are dozens of NHL and Major League Baseball players who spent time with the local affiliates. It's the nature of the business.
We should probably be limiting ourselves to players who had memorable accomplishments/moments in Rochester sports history. For instance, Cal Ripken played in the 33-inning game against Pawtucket. Jim Palmer gave up a grand slam to Johnny Bench, starting a career-long hate/hate relationship with Earl Weaver. Jody Gage had a long and successful stay with the Amerks and then returned to town as general manager of the franchise.
