John Harry Stedman (b. 1843, d. 1922) invented such wondrous marvels as the fuzzy pipe cleaner and the streetcar transfer ticket in 18921. He sold the pipe cleaner rights to BJLong Company which still makes them today, and that made him a wealthy man. In 1913, he re-introduced the custom of placing a lit candle in windows for Christmas.
Interred at Mt. Hope Cemetery, the best source for more information is Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery, which published a brief biography in the Volume 3, Number 1 (Spring 1983) issue of Epitaph, their newsletter.
