2005-03-20 22:27:52   The LDR Char Pit has one of the best steak sandwiches you will ever eat. Ever. NPR restaurant reviewers have said it was their favorite steak sandwich in the entire country (take that Philadelphia). Let me just say, if there was ever a reason to eat a cow, this sandwich would be it. If you are hungry, avoid the temptation of ordering fries or onion rings and just order two sandwiches. Trust me (plus their onion rings were not that great). You can sit at the counter and order or you can order at the counter and sit in a booth. Supposedly, it is really busy in the summer. The decor and atmosphere is like a 1950s truck stop. The people at the counter are incredibly friendly. I am not sure how tipping works, because it isn't table service in the traditional sense, but we left the standard 15% anyway. The food here is good enough that if in the future I am ever driving on the Thruway, I will make the stop. —MicahMilinovich

2006-01-05 13:16:36   The LDR Char Pit has been in business since the mid 40's and has the BEST ever steak sandwich, probably in the US. Memorabilia from the Charlotte area including part of an old chain that once blocked access to the Genesee River adorn the walls. —RickUrwin
