2006-08-25 15:50:51 Food was OK. Not worth driving out to Penfield for. —AdamDewitz
2007-01-25 15:33:11 I'm with Adam. The food was mediocre at best. The salsa was poor, basically tomatoes - no flavor. Not worth driving for, even if you live in Penfield. —RochCon
2007-01-25 20:20:15 The food was decent, the place is simply a converted house so it's not the best looking place. The table salsa was pretty hot, not bad. My drink (tequila & lime juice) was perfectly mixed, I can't complain at all about that. I liked the drink so much I went downstairs to the bar to sit and order another but there was such an unbearably strong odor of rotting fruit (and fruit flies were around) I had to leave. I don't plan on returning. —TravisOwens

2007-09-25 11:59:20 Im waiting for Los Amigos to close. The food is nothing special and the place looks like a dump. Hopefully something else moves in a rehabs the joint. —MrRochester
2008-04-29 18:21:19 I went here a few years ago and the food was not good. The chips and tortillas tasted like they just went to Top's and bought them. We are going back for drinks with friends but won't order any food. —NewtonNola
2008-11-15 18:31:07 I had a fantastic experience at Los Amigos. I've heard that it is under new management so definitely give this place a try! Can't wait to go back!! —PeteButtrill
2008-11-18 21:33:56 Yes, under new management as of October. Check us out! Daily 2 for 1 happy hour at the bar and authentic Mexican food. —LizzO
2009-01-09 18:09:41 I don't know about how this place is with the new management (so I should probably hold my tongue), however, I've only been once and my entire meal can best be described with one word: sour. Now, I don't know about you, but Mexican food shouldn't taste sour. Also, urinal puck smell isn't an inviting or appealing odor while eating. Needless to say, I've never returned here. —BatGuano
2009-03-07 09:58:13 We arrived at Los Amigos to find a packed parking lot, so we had high hopes for a good time and a good meal. Wanting to give the place the benefit of the doubt, we overlooked the muddy parking, cruddy exterior and disheveled kitchen staff smoking and cursing beside the nondescript "Main Entrance". The bar was crowded (for a birthday party, it turned out) despite sporting drab all-weather carpeting and smelling like a musty basement. Climbing the steep staircase (so much for accessibility) to the dining room, we were greeted and seated promptly by a friendly hostess, then left alone with our menus for 15 minutes. After plenty of time to decide on what to order, we flagged down one of the servers (there were only 2) and placed our order. My two tacos (one shredded beef, one chorizo) and side-order of rice arrived quickly, but after a single bite of each the meal was over: The shredded beef was barely palatable, but the chorizo tasted like the aluminum can it came from, and the rice tasted like hard tap water - in which it was no doubt cooked.
The experience went from bad to worse after we ate - after 35 minutes of sitting with empty drinks and utensils-down, we flagged down the server and asked for a check. When it arrived, it was for a different table. During the wait, I decided to tempt fate and visit the men's room - a big mistake: the experience came complete with cobwebs, but didn't include soap or paper towels. A working doorknob, and a lock that didn't require manhandling to engage, might have been nice too.
The Los Amigos location has potential, but if our experience last night is any indication, the only way to make this place tolerable will be a complete gutting of the building, a severe tearup of the menu, and total replacement of the incompetent waitstaff. For now, stay away! —daverea
2009-04-11 10:35:45 Pretty decent. Margarita's great. I don't know why, but especially at the bar. Reading all the reviews, some of them have merit both good and bad, but apparently it is under new management and appears to be an improvement, after several visits.. The nachos with the special cheese, were awesome. Empinadas great. The fundido was okay, however, first time I was there, the beef one didn't taste good. Another time, ordered it with chorizo and it was much better. One change would be is to improve the presentation, put a little salsa, sour cream, lettuce, cheese; instead of having to order a huge side, "a la carte". Some of the food doesn't look appetizing, even if it tastes good. The guacamole dip either needs more to it or the price reduced, other restaurants have something comparable, but for much less. I can just order a side of guac and eat it with the chips, and it is basically the same thing. I will definitely keep going back though, very quaint and the good food is really good, it's just finding the right item. —MAG
2009-10-17 07:20:53 lousy service. lousy food. tiny margaritas. we won't be back. —JcPop
2010-05-08 11:49:20 This place used to be decent about 4 years ago; I'm not sure what has happened but the food quality had gone down the drain and the prices are outrageous for the dog food they are trying to pass off as food. Stay away! —RochesterMom
