hey. i owned nook and have been in and out of rochester for about fifteen years. i went to the u of r. i've seen things change. some for the good (south wedge) and some for the bad (monroe). i'm an air force brat and have lived all over the world, and yes, i chose to come back to rochester to make my home. i loved it here. i wanted it to be great. i saw its potential, even if others didn't. i've now moved to raleigh, north carolina.
nook NEVER made a dime of profit, yet i still donated each year to Doctors Without Borders. through local support, nook helped keep MANY small wholesale businesses going in the US. husband+wife businesses, that made cards in their living room. businesses started by 2 friends, who made bags in their garage. jewelers who use recycled materials. +many others. so thank you for that.
rochester, i will miss you.

2007-10-26 14:32:06 Hey Mark, good to hear you gave Pasta Villa another shot. We certainly don't go there for the staff or atmosphere, it's all about the service.
Love your store, btw. —LanceReed
2007-11-18 16:56:26 Consumerist doesn't seem to like me, so I'll answer your question here. The same people who put up their tacky holiday decorations just after Thanksgiving in an effort to get into holiday spirits and/or avoid doing this stuff when the ground is cold, hard and covered in snow. Keep in mind that I'm not justifying their behavior, just explaining it. —DaveMahon

2008-07-18 19:45:41 I'm looking forward to starting school again...should be fun :) Hopefully I'll get a chance to stop by your new location before I leave, but if not, I'm sure I'll be visiting Rochester a few times in the coming year! —RachelBlumenthal

2008-08-25 10:38:09 Marc- Do you live in the Pittsford area? I loved shopping at nook, but I tend to avoid the Pittsford area at all costs so I haven't been in your new store. Just wondering what the driving force was behind moving to the Pittsford area.
I hope you and the shop are doing well. —KimBee
2008-08-25 13:25:23 Thanks for the info, I understand about no foot traffic in the Wedge. I hardly ever see anyone walking around in that area. The most walking I do in the wedge is from my car to the door of the Tap and Mallet and then back again :) I live in Irondequoit too btw. Are you East or West? —KimBee
2008-08-26 10:15:23 Hey me too, we must be neighbors! That's pretty funny considering I don't really know alot of my neighbors. —KimBee
2008-11-07 16:13:30 Hi Marc. I appreciate your comment about my comparison to Max Market and Mis En Place, and you are probably correct, which I am sad to say. When my wife and I moved to the area 7 years ago we wanted to live in the suburbs (so my wife could have a larger yard to do more gardening) but be close to the city for an easy commute and enjoy what downtown has to offer. That is why we chose Brighton. We frequent many restaurants in the city and try to support downtown establishments as much as possible. I wish that would be true of more people.
How have things gone for you and :Nook since your move to Pittsford? —ScottHendler

2009-05-27 19:15:19 I am so sad to see that you're leaving the area. I don't know you personally but I give all of your reviews an A+ and we have tried many a restaurant in the ROC because you've rated it highly. Good luck in whatever comes next! —ShawnaLusk
