Col. Patrick O'Rorke, who graduated first in his class at West Point in 1861, was a Civil War hero, having led a critical charge by the 140th New York Infantry in defense of Little Round Top during the Battle of Gettysburg. He was killed in the battle.

The Patrick O'Rorke Bridge, which replaced the Stutson Street Bridge in 2004, is named after him.
