Walia Ethiopian Cafe was opened in 2011 in the "519 Plaza" on East Ridge Road in Irondequoit, between Seneca and Hudson. Casual and friendly atmosphere with Ethiopian posters on the wall and Ethiopian music playing in the background. Traditional Ethiopian dishes served with injera. Menu includes meat (chicken, beef, lamb) and vegetarian options. Coffee is prepared while you eat dinner using traditional hand roasting and brewing methods — a unique experience for Rochester!

2011-06-19 00:37:51 We enjoyed an excellent dinner buffet on a Saturday evening. I usually am not a huge fan of buffets, but the food was freshly prepared throughout dinner, with as much attention as I would expect when ordering off the menu. There was a good variety of vegetable dishes, including a delicious avocado dish, a fresh tomato salad, and various cooked vegetables. Meat dishes included beef, lamb, and chicken that was so tender that it almost melted off the bone. Everything was tasty but not overly spicy. All in our party agreed that this is the best Ethiopian food in Rochester. $10/person included the coffee ceremony after dinner — amazing! —Roddy
