FIRST (aka For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international nonprofit organization founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. It is best known for having teams of teens, coached by adult volunteers, build robots and participate in friendly competitions.
