Originally called Mason Street, Front Street is now mostly empty, surrounded by parking lots and a large, fenced-in area. That lot was the site of the Rochester Gas Company (later to become part of RG&E). The plant manufactured gas from coal and was a NYS DEC toxic waste site. The lot has since been cleaned up and is supposedly available for development.
