Theres more to Indian food than the standard buffet food and chicken makhani and South Indian Udipi cuisine is one of them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udupi_cuisine). Highly recommended - the vada sambar, onion and peas utappam and the masala dosa. —MithunMukherjee

2008-07-14 10:58:23 My wife and I have already gone there 4 times since their rebranding and love the food. Even though they're obviously not northern (e.g., not understanding "gaajar" as "carrot"), the North Indian food is also excellent. Lassi was good, and a good compliment to the meal as their air conditioning is spotty at present.
Very highly recommend: andhra masala dosa, paneer dosa, onion and chili uthappam, malai kofta. —PaulArdis

2008-08-06 21:51:41 Was there at this restaurant yesterday both for buffet and dinner and i should tell you the food was simply amazing, there were a lot of food for the buffet and dosa n nan were served on the table, for dinner i tried the veg manchurian which was awsome, chicken biryani which tasted like authentic hyderabadi dum biryani, and tried there rava masala dosa which was again delicious the sambar was also authentic, Rochester was longing for a authentic south indian restaurant which now i think we got it finally. —ritesh
2008-08-11 22:57:37 This is my new favorite Indian restaurant in town (my old favorite was Tandoor of India, which I still think is good, but this place is better). The food is delicious, the service is great, and the ambiance is good too. I was hesitant to go back here after my one trip (ever) to the former restaurant, India Palace, which was horrible. However I'm glad I did, because this place is everything that India Palace was not - inviting (and well-lit) inside, friendly servers, good food, etc. Also, it's literally right around the corner from where I used to live (until I moved a few days ago), which was another big plus for me, when I lived there. I just wish they had opened sooner, so that I would have had longer to enjoy this place while I was still living in that neighborhood. —EricArdis
2008-08-14 20:12:56 It was a little dark and drab when we walked in, only one other couple there. Not much has changed in the look of the place since the old India Palace. Service was prompt but not terribly friendly. Our samosas were a bit overdone, too crunchy on the outside. Our entrees, however, were very good, we had a dosa and a uttapam and both very very tasty. The bill for the three items was under $ 20 (no drinks or dessert). We'll give them another try soon. —DottieHoffmann

2008-09-19 23:23:58 TO POST ABOVE Sir I have been to this restaurant after the management change and the place is now cleaned and renovated i think you may be mistakin it for the OLD INDIA PALACE, the owners of india palace did have health violations but the New Owners are from UDIPI CAFE Chain of restaurants who are well established all over US, so i think you should go there first n then talk about them —ritesh

2008-10-09 21:27:51 A massive improvement over the previous occupants. The lunch buffet was diverse - way more vegetarian (and therefore, way less non veg) options than most Indian buffets. The dishes were flavourful. The dosas were delivered to the tables and they were fresh and delicious. The potato filling was perfectly spiced. The idlis were dry unfortunately. The naan was standard. Their strength is really in South Indian cuisine. I think they kept around some North Indian dishes more familiar to Americans to attract customers. —OneLove
2008-10-12 12:39:19 As much as I liked India Palace, I was turned off from the closing for health violations. I saw that new owners had taken over the place and let me tell you, it is a huge improvement! Who knew a splash of paint on the wall could cheer things up. So far, I have gone 3 times- 1 for buffet and 2 for dinner. The food is delicious every time. The staff on the other hand is hit or miss. One time, we had a great waiter who was really happy, very helpful, and was just a delight. The second time was a taller gentleman who did not smile, didn't acknowledge our existence, and did not take care of us at all. The food though is my favorite in all of Rochester. It is flavorful and slightly spicy. Yummy! —JJohnson
2008-11-05 13:50:58 The whole dining experience was ok except for the rude old waiter; he seems to be the owner. He looks like he is in his mid 50s doesn’t care to smile. He has done all the things a waiter should never do, to mention a few
1) Yawn loud
2) Keep a serious face
3) Make noise with the silverware
4) Pour wine by holding the neck of the bottle
Unfortunately we got him as our server, he did not care to come and check if we needed anything, didn’t care to say “thank you” or “you’re welcome”. Well to keep it short doesn’t know how to behave in front of people.
At one point we saw him come inside through the main entrance and he did c a young lady carrying a baby entering the restaurant, he didn’t even bother to hold the door for the lady. The lady was shocked and we saw her shake her head in disbelief
If this guy is gone this Indian restaurant may survive —Kevin

In terms of taste and presentation, I prefer this place to India House but like it less than Thali of India, which I still think is the best Indian place in the area. The truly great thing here is that you can fill up for about $6 on a tasty dosa. Depending on who the diners are, I'd bet a paneer dosa could fill two people for lunch. —OwenThompson
2008-12-03 23:17:01 Pretty big selection of food. Probably the biggest of all the buffets, but unfortunaely half of them are basically very liquidy Soup/sauces of some sort that i guess you are supposed to pour over your rice.
The meat selections werent that great or very tender, but i DID love the Tandoor chicken wings.
Also, i liked how they give you a Dosa (basically potato filled thin bread) instead of Naan with your meal(which can be found as a buffet item).

2008-12-04 11:03:29 My sister was visiting from out of town and wanted Indian, so we went here. My first time, and most likely, last. The samosas were great, everything else we had was mediocre. We were there for dinner, not for the buffet. We had the chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, another chicken dish. The main dishes weren't bad, they were just ok, but not $50 ok. —MarcVera
2008-12-23 15:17:00 This is my favorite indian restaurant in Rochester. The food is very good, fresh and hot. The medu vada and the dosa selections is wonderful. Its become my new regular place to go and have lunch. The service is kind of blah but nothing to complain about considering the food is so very good and no need to have a talkative waiter. —SaRoyal
