The Box Factory Building is located canal-side in the village of Fairport. Because of its nice associated parking lot, prime location next to the Fairport Erie Canal Liftbridge, the Erie Canal, and the Fairport Landing canal docks, it provides an interesting and popular attraction.
The building was once the home of H. P. Neun (since moved to Ontario County) and now houses public restrooms and a variety of businesses - including:
-
Lulu Taqueria & Bar - Restaurant
-
Sharp Notions - Web Design/Development and Software Development
-
Center for Austim and Related Disorders- Services children in Monroe County on the autsim specrum
Other convenient destinations along Lift Bridge Lane include;
Tuesday night in the parking lot is Cruz Night: Groove to the oldies and cruise by antique and classic cars parked canalside during this weekly summertime celebration from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Box Factory parking lot and the North Bank Pavilion.
There is a story found in Barbara Stewart's Fairport Ghost Stories: Unsolved Mysteries of an Erie Canal Town.
This place used to be Deland Chemical Co. and in 1872 the owner, D.B. Deland, mysteriously fell to his death in the elevator shaft. Then in 1893 an unexplained fire broke out and destroyed the company.1
