Hegedorns was a family owned grocery store in Webster that originally opened as an IGA store in 1953. Unlike most other groceries they offered home delivery of items for a fee. Their bakery section had a selection cakes and pies from Leo's Elite Bakery alongside their own items.
The grocery store use to contain a "Bill Gray's Pizza Cafe". Hegedorn's owner, "Bruce Hegedorn" became a partner with Bill Gray in Bill Gray's, Inc. - Bruce is currently listed as its Chairman of the Board. See Manta Business Directory, Bill_Gray's, and Bill Gray's History. Now it is a Guida's Pizzeria location.

2007-07-05 21:11:07 There is nothing like Heggys, and it should be encouraged. It is a party headquarters, with many excellent microbrews, a near infinite variety of exotic condiments, large quantity items.
Many uncommon brands in all departments, and they are often better than the usual stuff. Or it is stuff you can not find elsewhere. Many local brands and produce.
I don't eat meat, but I understand there is a real butcher.
OTOH, the fish department used to be the best in town, but now it is pretty much like the usual prepacked prewrapped fish. The donuts used to be the best in town, now this is debatable (certainly still the best Supermarket donuts still).
Critically important, someone needs to clean up the prepackaged bread area; pull apart the shelves and everything. I avoid that place altogether now, which means I have to get my sandwich bread elsewhere.
OK, OK, I mean 'clean and uh, make sure it's clean'. —SuePap

2008-07-06 11:27:17 Hegedorns is a hidden treasure for beer drinkers. They recently expanded their selection beyond the great level that they were already at, and now have a huge variety of all types of styles from around the world. Far better selection than any other grocery store, and it's almost always less expensive than Beers of the World. —HughJass
2008-11-26 22:35:21 Bravo's Top Chef contestants shopped at Hegedorn's on the "Foo Fighters" episode of season 5 (air date 11/26/2008). Given they traveled to where the Foo Fighters were performing, this was likely on or about 7/28/2008, the date of the recent Foo Fighters' Rochester concert. —mattb

2012-07-19 16:14:30 I have to say the beer selection here is excellent and I'm becoming a fan of the bakery section. They carry stuff you can't find at Wegmans and even have cakes and pie from Leo's Bakery. —Damiankumor
