2006-07-02 06:29:39   I've been there twice so far and the food has been great both times. —JasonOlshefsky

2006-07-27 12:08:54   (1) They added up my bill wrong. (2) They gave me the wrong change. (3) The food gave me really bad diarrhea. The guy behind the counter should spend more time doing his job and less time socializing with his friends that hang out there. I’ll never go back again. —ZedOmega

2006-08-10 07:29:17   Had a chicken burrito and salsa & chips. The burrito was good & very large and I swear it was the best salsa I've ever had. —TravisOwens

2006-08-31 12:19:34   Best burrito in Rochester - but that isn't saying much. I would agree that the employees are a bit spacy, but what do you expect for a $4 burrito? —EllenKelsey

2006-09-05 09:47:49   I've been here twice with friends and family. Excellent Value and tasty food. I'd say it's on par with Coyote Moon though about 40% less expensive. It can get a bit busy resulting in a bit of a wait. My friends especially liked the shredded beef tacos. Overall Taco John's is one of the best values in town. —DevinWiesner

2006-09-06 10:12:03   Went again with coworkers, food was great. It is a very small space but they should add at least 1 more table, and a 3rd chair to the 2 chair tables. —TravisOwens

2006-09-08 10:17:12   The tofu burritos are deeeelish! Only complaint is that they need more tables/chairs. They have a big open space in the middle being wasted. —EmilyYang

2006-09-11 16:57:19   The homemade salsa is really good. The appetizers are cheap and delish. Burritos are huge. I ordered two but took the second home because I was stuffed. They really have a lot to offer. As of 9/9 seating is still a problem but I’m told they are working that out. :) —RickUrwin

2006-09-24 20:09:14   We are working with Seth @ Staach on 2 booths in the windows of the restaurant. This will double our seating. We will be changing our name soon, as there is a large chain with the same name, and there is a beer and wine license on the way. —JohnRoth

2006-09-24 21:13:53   Not authentic Mexican, but very tasty and cheap. Friendly owner and employees too. —DanielMiner

2006-10-23 15:33:57   The food is delicious. No, it's not authentic Mexican, but I prefer this style over the bean and corn-heavy authentic South American food I used to get in Brooklyn. Very friendly...My only complaint I guess is very limited drink selection (not bad, just limited), and that it can sometimes be extremely busy, though the crowd usually clears in fifteen minutes or so. —IsaacVanDuyn

2006-11-13 23:39:54   Awesome burritos (I usually get the tofu or the beef), and the Mexican Mush is also quite tasty. —CatherineConnolly

2006-11-14 19:36:00   This is a halfway respectable burrito joint. It's good enough that it makes me pine for the burritos you can get on Mission St. in San Francisco. These burritos are not quite good enough to equal them. They're the best I've had in Rochester, though. —CedrickStanton

2006-11-18 22:10:15   Pretty good, especially for the prices. The burrito was huge. This evening they had catfish, so we had fish tacos too, and they were very good. We'll be back. —VickiRobinson

2006-12-29 20:02:43   They don't answer their phone so forget about ordering ahead —LamiLia

2006-12-30 00:38:42   Actually, they do answer their phone, they're just closed between Christmas and new years. —DanielMiner

2007-02-12 19:53:52   The food was fantastic—I had the tofu burrito and taco, and my wife had the chicken taco and mush. It was all delicious (I tried a bit of her mush). Highly recommended for the person looking for a great casual meal or for those craving a substantial taco/burrito not the substandard Taco Bell fare. —CarlGo

2007-02-13 18:45:18   The prices are awesome and the food fantastic!!! Absolutely loved the mush and salsa —MaggieSmith

2007-03-19 16:00:17   Just got back from there, my plate was clean and I am stuffed. Good food! —DanDangler

2007-03-25 23:30:40   Really good food, large portions, very cheap. Definitely my choice for a cheap burrito. The employees have been friendly both times I've been. The colors on the walls might be a bit weird for some, but I really like it. The mush is excellent. —StevenDibelius

2007-03-30 18:54:14   had lunch here yesterday, and it was wonderful and inexpensive. i wish i'd known about this place sooner. —GrahamSaathoff

2007-03-31 14:38:31   Stopped by today for lunch, great food and atmosphere as usual. I adore the mural on the wall. Disappointed that I filled up on lunch and didn't leave room for dessert!:) —KimBee

2007-04-01 00:23:08   Good food and excellent value, though I would seriously not recommend peering too closely at what goes on in the kitchen. Also my waiter seemed to be in need of a shower. Good possibility he was high. —WegmansFiend

2007-04-07 17:00:41   A friend of mine reserved Taco John's for brunch this morning for a special occasion, and we had a spectacular meal! The food and service were excellent, and John was able to accomodate our group's (rather restrictive) dietary needs. I can't speak highly enough about this place — great food, homey, friendly atmosphere, vegan friendly — you can't go wrong! —GrahamSaathoff

2007-04-16 00:51:13   love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! —DesaRaeStanton

2007-05-05 11:45:12   great food and prices. the staff was young, friendly and hip. enjoyed my visit. A++ —RedDress

2007-05-22 13:32:32   Probably my favorite place for 'fast food'. This is where I go when I'm flying solo. The best thing they have going for them is the portion size but outside of that the burritos are excellent. Be sure to get some of the red sauce. Also check out the mush dip and chili. —AdamGrossman

2007-05-26 12:35:29   Solid, Cheap. Good house-made-sauces. And they stock good ginger-beer (like ginger ale, but more ginger-y). I'm a fan, and while it may not be particularly authentic, at taco-bell prices, you can't complain. Very Veggie / Vegan friendly. —RossMessing

2007-07-11 22:43:59   Went there for lunch today with a co-worker. It was nice to see how busy it was during a Wednesday afternoon. Seating can still be an issue, especially after it started to rain and people eating outside moved inside. The food is excellent and cheap. I had 1/2 of a chicken burrito and I have to admit that it was quite large. I would say they give Sol Burrito good competition for size but John's had more flavor and a better kick to it. —ScottHendler

2007-07-14 23:35:18   I enjoyed the food. The tiny hole-in-the-wall-location is charming if you are in the mood. Won't rush back but would be happy to return as well. —RalphMeranto

2007-07-25 20:11:31   Had a chicken burrito with black beans, corn, salsa, jalapenos and roasted red peppers. The chicken was tender but quite mildly flavoured. I think they could perhaps spice their chicken up a tad.

However, it was undeniably the biggest burrito i have EVER seen. It is good value for your money. To echo RalphMeranto, I am not eager to go back but wouldn't mind a return visit. —OneLove

2007-07-25 21:30:11   This place is great. Awesome food at very reasonable prices! —CraigCeremuga

2007-08-05 20:07:43   Great food. Prices are very reasonable. Also, John is friendly, says "hi" to you even if you're not a close friend. Only bad thing - no A/C in the summer, and sometimes it takes a little while to get waited on if you dine in. I would recommend that you only dine in when it's not too hot out and you have the time to wait. Otherwise, do carry-out (their carry-out is very efficient, I've done it several times on my lunch hour from work) —EricArdis

2007-08-08 17:01:35   The mexican mush was inedible, and the meat on the burrito and taco I ordered the second time I visited was bland and stringy. The portion sizes are huge, but I prefer quality over quantity. —CoryChristian

2007-09-07 19:08:05   Filling tacos. That's all you need to know. —MarcVera

2007-09-25 12:03:52   Ive tried this twice, and Johns has delicious food, but my stomach couldnt take the spice he puts in the chicken and the signature "mush." I would recommend it, but my stomach just cant take it. —MrRochester

2007-10-18 20:44:48   My brother and his wife have been raving about this place for months, so when I finally went, I expected it not to live up to the hype. I mean, how good could it be with "Tex-Mex" in the name, right? Wrong - this place is awesome. Almost everything was spicy, even the potato soup. And it was perfect timing for me, because the special of the day was rellenos, the dish I judge Mexican restaurants by. They were outstanding, thanks mostly to the spicy orange sauce on top. —McgMatt

2007-11-06 21:00:31   Went tonight with my dad and it was great! They put a ton of cheese on my chili, just the way I like it, and my taco was so full of stuff I could hardly pick it up. The beef in the taco was tender and had really good flavor. We'll definitely be back. —AdrienneDahler

2007-11-08 13:24:07   Enormous burritos at low prices, made with quality ingredients too. What more can you ask for? —GeorgeBluth

2007-11-18 12:51:18   This past Friday morning, I went to John's Tex Mex for a breakfast burrito. It was absolutely delicious. The chorizo was awesome. Unfortunately, I was the only breakfast customer the whole time I was in there. People, Taco John makes a fantastic breakfast burrito so go check it out! —CedrickStanton

2007-11-30 20:52:58   Went tonight and it was quite the disappointment. Mexican plates are now up to $7. Got the food home to discover they had put on jalapenos, even though I asked for none. They changed the tofu preparation and now it's tasteless and gray.

To top it off, the food was cold. Not luke warm—we're talking barely room temperature. Considering that it was ten minutes between the time I phoned them and the time I picked up the food, I can only assume that they gave me an order that someone else had cancelled or never picked up. CLASSY!

This was my favorite eatery in Rochester, but now I think it will be quite some time before I go back again. —ChelseaAllinger

2007-12-29 19:12:46   Andrew said the service was friendly, and the food was suprisingly good in light of the staff. Marisa enjoyed her burrito. She mentioned the fresh ingredients, and flavored chicken. I loved my burrito, it was massive and the jalapenos aplenty. —IanLinenfelser

2008-03-02 10:14:24   Great Quality/Great Value- I've been eating at John's Tex Mex once every 3 or 4 weeks for the past 2 years. Best Burrito & Tacos in Rochester, Excellent Quesadillas, Very good Chips & Salsa, & good beer specials. The only negative is that seating can get a bit tight Friday & Saturday night, though usually something opens up within 5 or 10 minutes.

I understand, ChelseaAllinger's comment above, I've observed that when they are very busy and a take-out order is called-in they tend to over-estimate the amount of time before it will be ready. This, obviously, ensures that the food will be ready though it may not be as hot when picked-up.

If you do not mind a little heat, John's offers, as free condiments, a yummy red (chipotle) sauce and a yummy green sauce. Be sure to ask for them when your food arrives.

2008-04-28 23:46:40   John's is fabulous! Great prices, the service is friendly and fast, the food is fresh and flavorful. Who knew tofu quesadillas could leave you breathless?! Not to mention the orange-red walls. Quite delightful!! —SmitaRao

2008-04-29 20:23:34   Had lunch there recently and really liked it. Good value for the money. Also: it tasted to me like they have Juan&Maria's empanada sauces as condiments. That alone would be reson to go there. —ThomasPawlik

2008-06-05 20:37:08   Really good food and reasonably priced. Try the green salsa. —ThomasPawlik

2008-06-13 20:03:14   What a fabulous find! They serve great food at GREAT prices. Their Mexican Mush is absolutely amazing. Seating can be tight sometimes if it's busy, but it hasn't caused a major problem in my experience. —TarynKimel

2008-06-25 22:01:02   This is just great food. Love their sauces. Lunches are very reasonably prices. A south wedge gem. —ThomasPawlik

2008-07-15 14:13:01   Good food and cheap prices. Service has been spotty. I found the mexican mush disappointing, but the burritos are tasty and a good deal. —EastSideStephen

2008-09-17 08:41:14   the fake-meat they use is very tasty and has a good texture. Plantains and potatoes very pleasant. —EugeneCain
