People For A Better Bus Station is an activist group that fought the 'Cave under the Renaissance Square' idea of a bus station since it was first mentioned. Like a lot of city projects, it seemed that the city totally ignored the citizen input on this one. There were many problems with the proposed plan, and you can see the whole laundry list of problems (and potential problems) on the PFABB Community Concerns page.
Ultimately an announcement at the Renaissance Square meeting on October 11, 2006 indicated that the bus terminal will no longer be built underground. The new terminal, called the RTS Transit Center, was built on Mortimer Street between North Clinton Avenue and St. Paul Boulevard. The process also involved converting North Clinton Avenue and St. Paul Street back into two-way streets to add to the bus station's efficiency.
