Groups that want to make positive change in Rochester. Some political groups and nonprofit organizations may be considered 'activist', but unless they are getting their hands dirty, and directly serving the people themselves, we list them separately.

• Activists Against Racism Movement (AARM) - focuses on confronting and eliminating racism.
  

• Affordable Policing of Webster (APOW) - a community group promoting more financially sound police coverage for Webster, NY.
  

• Civil Rights Front - a LGBTQ Community rights group that meets at the Equal Grounds coffee shop in the South Wedge.
  

• Compassionate Consumers - produced the documentary about Wegman's egg farms.
  

• Flying Squirrel Community Space at Clarissa Street and Troup Street - an independent community space used by several activist groups.

• International Socialist Organization - local branch.
  

• M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence.
  

• Metro Justice - probably Rochester's largest progressive, grassroots organization.
  

• People For A Better Bus Station.
  

• Reconnect Rochester - supports the expansion of Rochester's transit services and facilities.
  

• Rochester Cannabis Coalition - local affiliate of The National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws.
  

• Rochester Greenovation - Nonprofit organization devoted to waste diversion and sustainability.
  

• Rochester Indymedia - a non-commercial, all-volunteer, independent newspaper.
  

• Love Will End Abortion - a local pro-life advocacy group.
  

• Rochester Police Accountability Coalition - campaigning for holding law enforcement accountable.
