Village Coal Tower is a locally-owned restaurant located in an old coal tower near the Erie Canal in Schoen Place in Pittsford, the Coal Tower serves traditional diner food such as hamburgers, melts, and club sandwiches. 2007-03-17 19:01:23   My step-dad loves Eggs Benedict so when he visited we got some here and he said they were great. I love their burgers. Good fried potatos, but sadly no biscuits and gravy. The location is excellent and the atmosphere is great. You get actual locals not just people there to shop at Schoen Place. Right down the street from Towpath Bike, the best bike shop in the area. —OutSider

I imagine that I still have some sort of "punk kid" look that caused the hostess to help the old couple who clearly walked in behind me as I was already standing there waiting. That alone wasn't such a big deal, until after servicing them she decided to sit down a socialize with a friend, then acted shocked when I expected to get service. —jcole

2008-07-06 16:36:35   Decent food, friendly service. We usually end up here if Simply Crepes or other Pittsford restaurants are too busy. But its good food at a reasonable price - however, I hate the no credit card policy! (we just don't carry cash that often!) —DGandDJ

2008-09-03 15:37:25   Went here Monday afternoon. Had a good sandwich and nice curly fries. Everyone I was with enjoyed their meal. Only saw the lunch menu, they stop serving breakfast at about 11 or 12 depending on the day. Not a ton of vegetarian offerings, but they are there if you look for them. Their menu is pretty standard, a little basic for mt tastes, but nice. They don't take plastic, cash or check only. —BadFish

It's fine forwhen you've been out on the canal and want to stop and grab some comfort food, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. —RichMulvey

2011-04-07 14:06:05   I went here once with a friend that was biking down the canal with me. The place was busy, but the food wasn't anything great. Portions are small for the price. If anything it's got location. —DamianKumor

2014-05-11 16:32:08   Two and a half years since the last comment here, the Coal Tower still takes only cash or checks with good IDs. We went here for the first time, on Mother's Day, and had a very nice breakfast, going in right when they opened at 8 am on a Sunday. Our 3 yo liked her pancake, and the other half enjoyed The Barge, which was pretty huge and delicious. I had the special on the board, the Atlantic Eggs Benedict, substituting the ham with crab cakes, and loved it. Not only delicious, but so filling that I was still not hungry 6 hours later (I hate to think how many calories I consumed, but hey, it was Mother's Day!). We will return. —KatieSchmitz
