Village Green was a bookstore that started out on Monroe Avenue near 490 and the YMCA as a neighborhood establishment. They offered books, magazines, newspapers, cards and gifts. Eventually they would add coffee and baked goods to the menu.
Expansion beyond the original store occurred in the 1980s, with new stores in Greece, Penfield and eventually the Buffalo area. But competition from chain stores like Barnes & Noble and Borders would force them to begin closing stores in the mid-1990s. They tried to hang on at the original store but even that would prove too difficult and they closed completely.
The space is currently occupied by a video store and the YMCA.
