2006-06-11 13:05:05   John, all, happy to have discovered this wiki - helpful to see others' candid remarks about places. I had a mild feeling that I'd be flamed for "snobbery" (I admit, I'm biting at times) but decided to go for honesty. ROC places shutter way too often (every time I like some place it closes down, hmmm, bad tastes on my part) and then up goes another franchise (Greece, NY should be renamed Chain Central, USA). —ChristineLeo

2006-07-14 23:38:40   "...probably yet another way that ROC tries to emulate NYC"; "...given how rare that seems to be for ROC" - if you consistently have terrible experiences everywhere, why do you constantly dine out? For most of us, places like Max's or Sienna or Rio are reserved for special, memorable occasions and they fit the bill quite nicely. I've noticed that you haven't left any comments at the plethora of ethnic restaurants our small city has. Perhaps they might offer you more of what you're looking for, but, based on your comments, I have my doubts. I am admittedly defensive about the city that I live and work in, but feel that, for its size, it has a wonderful amount of dining options to fit every taste and budget. —RochesterGuy

2006-09-15 14:14:37   Hi Christine. I'm the owner of :nook and I sincerely apologize if I ignored you when you came in. That was not my intention. Was I on the phone, was I helping someone else or were there other people in the store? It is not my intention to ignore anyone, ever. I have been ignored at many, many, many stores in the Rochester area, and it's one of the things I pride myself on - making sure everyone feels welcome at :nook. Your comment about corporate clothing is also absolutely incorrect, and i'm sorry you feel that way. I do hope you will come back and I hope you saw 90% of the items I carry can't be found anywhere else in Rochester. I've told many people that have been in when ask about my demographic, that it's age 10 - 100. Again, I am sorry if you feel I slighted you. You can be sure it wasn't on purpose. —MarcVera

2006-09-15 15:34:49   Marc, apology not needed - I didn't indicate I was slighted, as I wasn't (my comment was poker-faced). Being ignored, I agree, was not intentional - what'd be the point? Plus, it's more 'Blink' than conscious thought. Also, I don't base buying decisions on salesmanship (except in the service industry or where post-purchase work is required). It should bother business people (hence your reply). As products are launched with a target audience in mind; while the store owner him/herself might not discriminate, the products do the work for him/her. Moreover, the way the store owner looks, acts, and talks, telegraphs his/her target audience, because he or she is the brand. RE circumstances around whether you were busy: not relevant. As you know shopkeepers should greet everyone that comes through the door, esp. in small spaces, if for reason other than they can't get around it. You didn't greet us, and it didn't bother me. I just described what happened. Have fun with your new shop. Must be exciting. —ChristineLeo

2007-03-30 15:35:50   JohnLam, thanks for your comment. I'm pretty 'anti-social'...online communities, Web 2.0...eh, not me. There exists no "About Me" page anywhere. In fact, I think rocwiki is - er, was - about my extent of online participation, outside of Slate and Salon forums. Reaction to my comments was not unexpected...so... Something about my personality might be evident in that I just about never retorted any personal 'shot'. Based on what I've seen, you carry yourself nicely on rocwiki (Mom would be proud) and thus I didn't want to leave the Tribe comment hanging (yes, I'm actually very courteous in person, imagine that). —ChristineLeo
