West Avenue has its eastern origin where West Main Street terminates in a split into two new streets: West Avenue and Chili Avenue. This occurs at the tip of the Bull's Head neighborhood. Continuing west, West Avenue forms the border between the 19th Ward and Dutchtown, and then most of the border between the 19th Ward and the U.N.I.T. Neighborhood. It eventually runs into the railroad yards near Cairn Street, where it dead-ends. West Avenue starts out as a mix of commercial and residential use but becomes increasingly industrial as you continue west.
Part of West Ave is also designated as Route 33. Buffalo Road is an important intersection.
