Joseph C. Wilson Boulevard was named for Joseph C. Wilson, a University of Rochester alumnus and founder of Xerox. It runs along the Genesee River and trail from Ford Street to Elmwood Avenue. The University of Rochester River Campus has many buildings located along Wilson Boulevard, including several fraternity houses, Strong Auditorium, Todd Union, Wallis Hall (which includes the President's office), and Hutchison Hall.
From Elmwood north to about McClean Street, Wilson Boulevard forms the western border of the Lilac Neighborhood. The northernmost portion is part of the South Wedge.
In June 2012 UR opened a new pedestrian bridge, converted from an old railroad bridge, extending from Wilson Blvd to the Genesee River Trail, near the entrance at Flint Street. This provides students living at Riverview Apartments with quicker access to the River Campus and makes it easier for the UR community to reach downtown via bicycle.
