Route 31 is an east-west New York State Highway that begins in the west at an intersection with Route 104 in Niagara Falls, spans 10 counties (and passes through the City of Rochester, before it overlaps with Route 5 in the Town of Vernon and terminates at Route 26. The road is one of the longest state routes in NY.

Route 31 serves as an alternative route from Rochester to Niagara Falls and Canada passing through the canal towns Medina, Middleport, Lockport and Lewiston where it intersects with the Niagara Expressway (I190) just south of the Lewiston Bridge into Canada.
Rochester Region Segment
In the greater Rochester area Route 31 is a major east-west artery passing through Orleans, Monroe and Wayne counties. It intersects Route 98 in Albion, Route 19 near Brockport, and Route 259 in Spencerport.
Route 31 also splits out into Route 31A, Route 31E and Route 31F.
